What is the Ben Nye Effects Gel Wound Kit?

The Effects Gel Wound Kit brings together all three variants from the Ben Nye Effects Gel range in one package. The gelatine base means the gel holds its shape after cooling, forming a firm, skin-toned or blood-like effect directly on skin. That sets it apart from liquid stage blood: the gel stays put and gives the effect real dimension and depth.

The range has three colours: Blood Effects Gel (deep red), Flesh Effects Gel (yellowish transparent) and Scar Effects Gel (opaque skin tone). This kit contains all three in a 29 ml starter size.

Why choose the Effects Gel Wound Kit?

With all three gels together you can build a complete wound: Flesh for the base texture, Scar for raised scar edges, and Blood for the bleeding detail on top. No need to order the colours separately. How to use the Ben Nye Effects Gel Wound Kit

Place the bottles in hot water (bain-marie or hot water bath) until the gelatine becomes liquid. Work quickly before the gel cools. For the best build-up, use the order Flesh, Scar, Blood: start with Flesh as the base, work Scar over the edges, then finish with Blood on top.

• Directly on skin: apply the liquid gel with a spatula. Sculpt the texture while it cools.
• Pre-made appliances: pour the liquid gel into a mould, let it cool, release with setting powder and store for later. To apply, use fresh warmed gel or Ben Nye Spirit Gum to bond the appliance to skin.
• Layered wound build: work in the order Flesh, Scar, Blood. Flesh lays the base texture, Scar raises the scar edge, Blood adds the finishing blood detail. Build up thickness by adding extra layers to specific areas.

Pro tip: Tint the cooled gel with cream make-up or Magicake aquacolour for extra detail in the wound. Take the shine off with a touch of Neutral Set Powder and a large make-up brush to reduce the gelatine's natural shine and tackiness. Work in thin layers for sharp definition and build thickness only where you need it.

Setting and removal

The Effects Gel sets on its own, no fixative needed. For removal, work through the following steps:

• Skin: press a hot damp towel over the effect and leave for 30 to 60 seconds so the gelatine melts. Wipe away with a Wonder Towel and finish with a gentle skin cleanser.
• Pre-made appliances with Spirit Gum: dissolve the Spirit Gum with Ben Nye Bond Off; any remaining gelatine rinses away with warm water.
• Clothing and fabric: rinse immediately with cold water. Machine wash at 30 degrees Celsius with a stain remover. Test on a hidden area first.
