Neill's Materials Skin Imitator is a 4-component platinum-cure silicone system you apply directly to skin to create realistic SFX effects such as cuts, burns, scars and blisters. The pre-pigmented Part B speeds up your workflow: no extra mixing or pigments needed to build up a skin-like result within minutes.

What SFX effects can you create with Skin Imitator?

Skin Imitator is designed for direct on-skin use. Because it cures against the skin surface, it picks up the natural texture of the skin underneath, giving cuts, burns and scars a realistic depth that prosthetic pieces often can't match. You build up the effect in place rather than pre-making a piece in a mould.

It works well for wounds, blisters, aged skin, raised scars and burn damage. The material blends at the edges as you sculpt, so the transition into the surrounding skin looks natural rather than stuck-on.

When do you choose Skin Imitator over a pre-made prosthetic?

Pre-made prosthetics are faster for repeatable looks, but Skin Imitator gives you full creative control on the day. It conforms exactly to the performer's skin, which means no edge-blending with spirit gum, no lifting edges and no size-fitting issues. Choose this when the look needs to feel truly integrated into the skin.

The 200 ml kit is practical for location work and touring productions. Having both a pre-pigmented and a clear Part B in one set means you can match a wider range of skin tones without carrying extra pigment stock.

How to use Skin Imitator

1. Mix Part A and Part B in a 50:50 ratio. Choose between the clear Part B (for custom colouring) or the pre-pigmented Part B.
2. Add Part C if needed for extra flexibility. More Part C means a more flexible result, but also a longer cure time.
3. Apply directly to skin and work quickly to give yourself enough time for sculpting.
4. Model with a spatula for wounds, scars, burns or other effects. Dip your tools in alcohol to prevent sticking.
5. Add texture with a stipple sponge for a realistic skin texture.
6. Powder down with setting powder to reduce shine, and optionally colour further with alcohol-activated make-up.

Pro tip: For a realistic fresh wound, apply a thin base layer of the pre-pigmented mix, then build raised edges with a slightly stiffer mix (less Part C). Stipple the surface while still tacky for natural skin texture, then colour with alcohol make-up once cured.

Safety and removal

Skin Imitator is a platinum-cure silicone, which means it does not contain solvents or isocyanates. Always do a patch test before full application, especially on sensitive skin. Remove by gently peeling the cured silicone away from the skin at the edges and working inward. A drop of IPA alcohol at the edge can help release the bond.
