Everything about Superstar Face Paint
Superstar is a Dutch face paint brand with a long history. The individual pots in this category are water-based face paints on a glycerine base: easy to blend, well-pigmented, and suitable for both beginners and experienced painters.
Linda Gloudemans, owner of SchminkenGrime.nl, works with Superstar herself at events, in workshops, and as a trainer in the NHA distance-learning course on theatrical make-up. She is also examiner for the Dutch vocational programme Allround Make-Up & Hair Artist and shares her expertise on her YouTube channel and blog. Which size: 16 g or 45 g?
The right size depends mainly on how often you use a colour.
The 16 g pot is ideal if you want to build up a wide range of colours. It makes it easy to put together your own face paint set for children's parties, workshops or varied bookings. If you use a lot of individual 16 g pots, the Superstar Snapcase for 24 pots keeps everything neat and easy to carry.
The 45 g pot is the better choice for colours you reach for constantly. Think white and black, base colours for full-face designs, or skin tones for character makeup.
How to use Superstar water-based face paint
Dampen your brush or sponge lightly with clean water and stroke it across the paint. Aim for a creamy consistency: not too dry, but not too wet either. Then apply the colour in thin layers for smooth, even coverage.
For sponge work, you can wet the sponge and squeeze out the excess. You can also work with a dry sponge and activate the paint lightly with a water spray bottle.

Removing face paint
Remove Superstar face paint with a face cloth or Remover Towel, lukewarm water, and a mild soap or baby shampoo.
Don't scrub, and avoid baby wipes. They can irritate the skin, especially on children or anyone with sensitive skin. Is the skin feeling a bit dry afterwards? Apply a mild moisturiser.
Storing face paint
After use, wipe the pots clean with a sponge or cloth. Leave the face paint to dry with the lid off. Only put the lid back on once the paint is completely dry.
Store Superstar face paint in a cool, dark place. Keep the pots out of direct sunlight: heat can soften water-based face paint. Has a colour gone soft? Pop the pot in the fridge for a while to firm it back up.
