Superstar Stipple Sponge

What effects can you create with this sponge?
The uneven texture of the stipple sponge gives you a dotted, patchy pattern that mimics the look of stubble, a short beard, or broken capillaries. It is the go-to tool for any character that needs an unshaven or weathered appearance.
The same texture also works brilliantly for falling-snow effects or a frosty look on the skin. Load the sponge with white face paint, dab lightly, and you get a scattered, natural-looking result you cannot achieve with a flat sponge.
When do you choose this sponge over a regular sponge?
A regular round sponge gives you smooth, even coverage. The stipple sponge does the opposite: it creates texture and irregularity. Choose this sponge when you need a realistic stubble effect, a bruised or weathered skin look, or any effect where solid coverage would look too clean and artificial.
It pairs well with grey or dark brown face paint for stubble, and with white or light blue for snow and frost effects.
How to use it
Dampen the face paint slightly, then press the sponge directly onto it to pick up colour. Dab the sponge onto the skin with light, even pressure. Build up the effect layer by layer until you reach the intensity you want.
Pro tip: For a realistic short stubble effect, use a mid-grey face paint as your base layer, then add a second dab with a darker brown-grey on top. The two layers give depth and stop the result from looking flat.
Cleaning and care
Wash the sponge by hand under warm running water with soap straight after use. Press gently rather than twisting or wringing, as that preserves the texture over time.
For hygiene reasons, use a fresh sponge for each person you work on where possible.
