Diamond FX put this special FX face paint palette together specially for SchminkenGrime.nl, something you can read on the back of the pack: "made in cooperation with Schminkengrime.nl". We deliberately built it as a full special-effects set rather than a standard colour palette, so you have exactly what you need to paint fake wounds makeup that looks convincingly real.

What is the Special FX palette?

A professional wax-based face paint palette that you activate with water. It holds twelve refillable 10g pots: six skin tones (Light, Fair, Medium, Olive, Brown and Black skin) and six effect colours (Yellow, Red, Black, White, Blood and Blue). These are exactly the colours you reach for when painting fake wounds, bruises and 3D effects that look surprisingly lifelike, which makes it a genuine skin tone face paint palette as much as an SFX kit.

The colours are highly pigmented, cover strongly and build up in thin layers without immediately bleeding into one another. With the skin tones you work up shadow and depth, so a painted wound or scar really looks as though it sits in the skin. Run low on a colour? Simply top up the pots with separate Diamond FX 10g pots.

Which colours are included?

Six skin tones to build up skin, shadow and depth:

• Light skin (1012): the lightest skin tone, for highlights and pale, light skin
• Fair skin (1013): light skin tone for natural transitions
• Medium skin (1014): mid tone for building up skin and scars
• Olive skin (1015): tanned skin with a warm, yellow-brown undertone
• Brown skin (1016): brown skin tone for deeper skin and shadow areas
• Black skin (1017): the darkest tone for deep hollows and shadow

Six effect colours for wounds and bruises:

• Yellow (1050): yellow for old bruises and a sickly, jaundiced effect
• Red (1030): red for fresh wounds, inflamed edges and grazes
• Black (1010): black for depth, eye sockets, dirt and dark hollows
• White (1001): white for highlights, exposed bone and pale, deathly skin
• Blood (1033): deep blood red for blood, deep wounds and scabs
• Blue (1070): blue for fresh bruises, veins and a cold corpse effect

How to use this face paint

Lightly dampen a make-up sponge or brush and rub it over the pot until the paint reaches a creamy consistency. For the sponge it works best to mist it with a spray bottle, so the sponge does not get too wet. Work in thin layers for clean coverage and let each layer dry briefly in between.

For a realistic wound, build up the skin tones as a base and apply the effect colours on top. All twelve colours mix together, so you easily make your own tones and soft transitions by blending colours into one another.

Setting and removing

On dry skin the face paint stays put nicely. Want extra hold on warm days, during long events or performances? Then use a setting spray such as Mehron Barrier Spray.

Removal takes three steps:

• Wipe away most of the face paint with a damp cloth or remover towel
• Cleanse the skin with lukewarm water and Diamond FX Skin Soap
• Wash any fabric that has picked up face paint at 30 degrees with a normal detergent

Diamond FX is a Dutch brand. This face paint meets EU Cosmetic Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 and is not tested on animals. Following FDA guidance, do not use around the eyes or on the lips.
