Polymorph mouldable plastic 100g for SFX, props and appliances
The Polymorph mouldable plastic is a reshapeable thermoplastic material in pellet form. Warm the pellets in hot water, shape them by hand into a prop, appliance or mould, and let them cool into a strong white plastic. Reusable as often as you like.
What is Polymorph mouldable plastic?
Polymorph comes as a 100 gram bag of small plastic pellets. At around 70°C the pellets turn transparent and become hand-kneadable. From that point you can shape the material into props, appliances, moulds or fixing pieces for SFX work. At room temperature it sets back into a tough, lightweight white plastic. Any change can be undone simply by reheating the material in hot water.
Why choose Polymorph?
- Finger-friendly to shape: kneadable by hand up to around 60°C without becoming too hot to handle.
- Reusable as often as you like: reheat the material and start over from scratch.
- Non-toxic and biodegradable: safe to use and more environmentally friendly than many plastics.
- Strong once set: turns into a tough, lightweight white plastic that you can sand, paint and work further.
- Versatile: suitable for props, appliances, small moulds and SFX builds.
How to use Polymorph
- Heat water to around 70°C in a bowl (boiling water is not needed).
- Add the desired amount of pellets to the bowl. The pellets will turn transparent.
- Scoop them out with a spoon and knead briefly into one lump.
- Shape the material as you wish, or press it into a silicone mould.
- Let it cool to room temperature. The material turns white and firm again.
- Not happy with the result? Drop it back into hot water and reshape.
Safety tips
Polymorph is safe to shape by hand up to 60°C. Above 60°C the material becomes sticky and behaves like hot glue, so take care to avoid burns. If in doubt, wear protective gloves and keep children away from the hot water. Not edible, do not swallow.
What can you use Polymorph for?
- Appliances and separate pieces for face paint and body paint looks
- Props and accessories for cosplay or theatre productions
- Cuts, scars and SFX builds (combined with make-up)
- Small moulds for repeatable prosthetic pieces
- Repairs and custom fittings on costumes
